Montessori Training – Offered Through SIMS Partnership Alongside PIE Courses
The Montessori training track focuses on developing the whole child in the following areas:
- Montessori philosophy
- Principles of child development
- Physical
- Intellectual
- Grace and Courtesy
- Emotional

- Spiritual
- An interdisciplinary approach to the study of:
- geography (geology, chemistry, physics)
- biology (botany, zoology, ecology)
- history
- language
- mathematics (arithmetic, geometry, algebra)
- music
- art
Cost of Training
Please review course costs for students thoroughly before submitting your application:
- Total Tuition for Academic Year: $13,500
- Optional Philosophy of Indigenous Education Course: $1,700
- Application Fee: $150 (must be submitted with your Application)
- Tuition Deposit: $1000 tuition deposit is due upon enrollment.

AMI Montessori Primary teacher training in New Mexico!
- Bringing AMI training to New Mexico – Train online in our blended classes and practice in Albuquerque!
- Optional Philosophy of Indigenous Education program available to all students.
- SIMS AMI Primary trainer, Ann Velasco, will be the lead trainer for this course!
- Convenient evening classes broken into modules that allow for time to complete observation and practice teaching in New Mexico.
- In person sessions will be conducted in Albuquerque.
Indigenous Montessori Institute Primary Training Scholarship
The Indigenous Montessori Institute (IMI), in collaboration with the Southwest Institute of Montessori Studies (SIMS), is pleased to offer partial scholarships for Indigenous applicants pursuing Montessori Primary training. The purpose of this scholarship program is to support Indigenous educators in building language-affirming, culturally-grounded and healing centered Montessori environments for Indigenous children and families.
Eligible applicants include individuals who identify as Indigenous to Turtle Island or Abya Yala, and who intend to use this certification to support Indigenous children. Preference will be given to applicants currently working in or planning to work in Indigenous-led schools or programs. Please see our Indigenous Montessori Network Schools for examples. All partial and full scholarship recipients will be required to take at least one of our three Philosophy of Indigenous Education tracks: 1. Indigenous Language Immersion Approaches (summer) 2. Reclaiming Indigenous Education (fall) or 3. Indigenous School Leadership Development (spring). Please see our website for dates as they become available.
